As I’m sat here writing this post, part of me wishes I had been writing and editing it as I went along because today’s topic is one that has been ongoing for the past few months. Social media and various online sources have meant that I’ve been able to research it though so at least at this point I have a clear picture of what I need and want to include. Despite my somewhat cryptic wording in those first two sentences, the title of this makes it obvious what I’m going to be taking about today: Blake Lively and her flawless style.

Since the 2016 Cannes Film Festival back in May and up until the start of this very week, Blake Lively has been showcasing her stellar style both on the red carpet and en route to talk shows. Her promotional duties for her two new films, The Shallows and Cafe Society, have taken her from the South of France to the pavements of New York and have led to her being photographed regularly for the past few months in a variety of great looks. Plus, the extra element to her style parade that makes it even more impressive is that she has been at various stages of pregnancy throughout all of it. This isn’t to say that pregnant women can’t be stylish but when it comes to celebrities they often play it safe on the red carpet when they are pregnant. As someone observing fashion, I like how Blake Lively doesn’t do this and I find that her style is consistent whether she is dressing a baby bump or not.

I have long been a fan of Blake Lively, initially thanks to The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and Gossip Girl and then watching her in interviews has also made me like her on a personal level. I think she always comes across well and she seems funny too. Since Gossip Girl I have been aware of her style as fashion was such a key part of that series and off-screen it was just as impressive. Perhaps the most unique and notable factor in her red carpet style is that she doesn’t use a stylist. To not use a stylist and still produce looks which are so considered head-to-toe is really something. You can clearly see the thought that goes into not only the clothing but her accessories and her shoes (she never wears a boring shoe!) too. What Blake Lively has said herself sums this up pretty perfectly: “It’s such a passion of mine… It would be like making a cake and then handing it off to someone else to ice and decorate”.
